You are required to produce a report on the subject of Information Systems (IS) development and usage within a specific; business sector or organisational function. You have the choice but we suggest that you choose an area which is relevance to your degree or is an area in which you may be considering to develop your career.
For example, if you are studying Business with Marketing, Financial Management, HRM or Enterprise then we suggest that you, in the first instance, should consider setting your work in those functions or within organisations which specialise in those areas to increase relevance and interest for you. If you are studying Business Studies then you will have potentially more scope from the outset as to the type of business/organisation or sector you may wish to set your work in although we advise that you may choose the organisations operational function/s.
There will be specific seminars, set aside, for you to discuss your ideas and progress with your tutor. You can check the dates of these sessions both in the module guide and from the module site.
Requirements
- Examine the information requirements of the organisation or function at Operational, Tactical and Strategic levels in order to operate effectively and efficiently, considering where this information can be sourced (internally and/or externally)
- Identifyrelevant IT based Information Systems which help to achieve the above
- Identify and evaluate examples of Internet based IS such as websites and Intranets
You are also required to underpin your findings with academic literature from peer reviewed sources. In order to achieve this we recommend that you research texts and papers using Business Source Premier and Emerald and also SHU links and Google Scholar.
Target 2,000 words +/- 10% as per University regulations
Note: word counts do not include; introductions, references, bibliographies or appendices
Your work should be submitted electronically to ‘turnitin’ and you are required to achieve an originality score in the region of 30% or less (details of how to submit to turnitin are available on the FMI module site Assessment area). Excessive scores may mean that you are referred to an Academic Conduct Panel for plagiarism. You will also receive your feedback and grade electronically.
