Final Group Project: Executive Analysis

Final Group Project: Executive Analysis (100 points) and PowerPoint (100 points)

Executive Analysis (written report)
Overview
The final components of the group project are an integrative case analysis assignment designed to demonstrate the skills you have learned throughout the course and your business career. From a broad overview perspective, the group will build on the first paper (Industry Mapping Analysis). In this final work, the group will be focusing on a specific company within the industry, which has been assigned by the professor and relayed at the end of your IMA feedback.

Although you may still have information regarding the industry in your final report, your primary focus is now on this company. In other words, the industry analysis information is good to the extent that you begin to connect the dots as to how this shapes your particular company’s situation. It might be useful to consider an overview of the “key” industry trends as opposed to a total regurgitation of your previous paper. This paper does need to incorporate a financial analysis of the company, but as part of the overall analysis. View the company as if you were a management consultant or a top manager within the company. Your focal point is to understand the environment of the firm and how you need to move in the future. As such, a long history of the company is not needed unless it is somehow important to inform the future. The focus is on YOUR analysis—not the company’s analysis.

A finished product will demonstrate that you understand the competitive environment in which the company functions, the organization’s existing strategy, and the organization’s existing operations. This requires critical thinking and creative thought. It is not easy; give yourselves some thinking time.

Research
Use relevant materials from the text, industry research, and the company itself. However, do not recite the company’s annual report. Although difficult, you are to make independent evaluations. A key portion of the report is the recommendations section and linking this to your discussion of the issues.

Format
You must have an executive summary (about a page). An executive summary is short synopsis of the key points that will be covered in the report and a summary of the conclusions and recommendations that will be made. It appears first in the paper, but is completed last, for obvious reasons. The report may be no longer than 20 pages (not counting title page or references page). It can be done in less, but not less than 12 pages. Times New Roman, size 12 font, double-spaced. The use of subheadings and graphs/figures is encouraged. Use APA or MLA format for the report.

Revision
It is HIGHLY recommended for the group to submit its document to the Writing Center for review before submission. The online Writing Center is open 24/7 with a usual turnaround time of 24 hours. The maximum daily limit is 10 pages, so you may need to split your paper into parts before sending to the Writing Center.
Submission
The document should be submitted through Assignments by one person on behalf of the entire group.
Scoring
As with the IMA, both a group and individual evaluation will be completed. Each person must submit an evaluation form through Assignments to receive a grade for the project, and individual scores will be adjusted due to lack of participation if necessary.

Final PowerPoint Presentation

This is the last component of your project. This is a PowerPoint presentation that is designed to accompany your final written report. You need not wait to start on it, but it should flow from your report.

Think of this PowerPoint presentation as your oral presentation to the senior management group or board of your organization. There are, however, some restrictions. The audience has a short attention span, so you are limited to 18 slides. You must have 18 slides from start to finish (not counting title slide or references slide), and exactly 18. You should also utilize the notes version so that in addition to having the slides you have a summary of your primary speaking points for each slide. You may have videos, charts, and/or graphs embedded in the slides, but it must be designed to be completed in a 30-minute time period.
