Your experience in our adventure-based training program can be enhanced by spending some time before the program thinking about specific goals that you want to achieve.  We suggest that you reflect in writing (informally) on the questions listed below.  Some of the reflection questions pertain to the “group” that has yet to be formed.  You can think about the questions in the context of a group of individuals with whom you currently work, especially a group that you would like to see become more effective.  All of these questions will be touched on during the course.  It will be to your advantage to have done some writing and thinking about them before hand.  These questions are for your personal use only and should be reflected on in your journals.

1. Define teamwork and leadership in your own terms.

1. What makes a good leader?  What makes a good follower?,

1. In group activities, what role within the do you normally assume?  Are you the listener, the doer, the leader or the follower?  Why?

1. Put yourself in a group that is attempting to accomplish a goal.  What strengths do you bring to the group?  What are your weaknesses that will detract from the group.

1. On a scale of 1-10, how important is communication in your relationships.  With your better half?  With your family?  With your co-workers or boss?  With your business adversary?

1. What factors facilitate good communication in any relationship?

1. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate yourself on your communication skills?  Why?  Which skills are you good at and which would you like to work on?

1. Again, on the 1-10 scale, how important is support in your relationship?  How much do you rely on your support “network” to get goals accomplished?

1. When is it easy for you to give support and when is it difficult?

1. What about trust?  On a 1-10 scale, are you inherently a trusting person?  Or, so you ‘test the waters’ first?  Why?  What is needed in a relationship before you can trust?

1. Knowing a little about the course, what are some of your individual goals that you would like to work toward on you adventure? (i.e., what do you want to accomplish during your course experience?

1. What will it take to meet your goal or goals?

1. What blocker (personal issues) may stand in your way of reaching these goals?

1. What kind of support do you need from the group?

1. How will you know if you have reached your goals?

1. What would you like to see be a group goal for the course?
