Choreographer Profile Paper
The focus of this paper should be on researching the artist’s major influences, their creative process, choreographic style and artistic philosophy through the lens indicated by the instructor. Provide background information on the artist insofar as it establishes the context/ the socio-cultural environment in which the artist developed and presents their work. The paper should include descriptive, interpretive and reflective discussion of your research and this artist’s work. You are expected to watch multiple examples of the artist’s work, but hone in on one or two specific examples that help you to exemplify this artist’s artistic philosophy. Based on your research, discuss whether you deem this artist to be challenging/critiquing or mirroring/reflecting social norms; defend your claims with specific examples from the works examined.
Format and Sources
The paper should be 4-5 pages in length, double spaced, 12pt., Times/Times New Roman font. Your list of references must contain a minimum of five varied sources and must include at least two journal articles. Acceptable sources include journals, books, personal interviews and video recordings. Try to include at least one primary source (written by the choreographer or a personal interview of them).
